Fire-scarred tree in Wysall that housed a wild honey bee colony

Raw Wild Bees Honey Wysall Village Nottinghamshire August 2024

When you scan the QR code on your Buzzy Honey Bee jar or enter the Best Before date, you arrive here. This is where we share the full, transparent story of your honey. No blending, no mystery — just pure, single-origin raw honey from our family apiaries and special rescues in Nottinghamshire.

This unique batch comes from wild bees that made their home in a hollow tree in Wysall Village, Nottinghamshire. On 18 August 2024, we performed a careful rescue at the request of a local resident. The bees were safely relocated to one of our hives, where they continue to thrive. The honey they produced in their original wild home was harvested and jarred — a true taste of the wild.

The Essence of a Wild Nottinghamshire Rescue Harvest

Raw Wild Bees Honey captures the untamed spirit of the Nottinghamshire countryside. Produced naturally by feral bees in a tree hollow, this honey carries a distinctive smoky, wild character — as if the tree itself lent a gentle, fire-kissed note to the final product. It remains completely raw: unpasteurised, unblended, and only coarsely strained to preserve all its natural enzymes, antioxidants, pollen, and complex flavours.

Harvest Details

  • Date: 18 August 2024
  • Location: Wysall Village, Nottinghamshire
  • Type: Premium Raw Wild Bees Honey (multifloral with smoky notes)
  • Flavour Profile: Golden colour with a subtle smoky fragrance. Multiflower blend featuring a unique, gentle smoked undertone layered over wild floral sweetness. Complex, aromatic, and deeply memorable.

What the Bees Foraged On

The primary nectar sources were the tall, vibrant pink-purple spikes of Rosebay Willowherb (fireweed), which blooms abundantly in late summer around Wysall’s meadows, woodland edges, clearings, and hedgerows. Supporting forage came from various local wild plants, clovers, and late-summer meadow flowers typical of the Nottinghamshire Wolds. This rich, diverse wild diet gives the honey its robust yet elegant base, elevated by the natural smoky character from the bees’ original tree home.

The Unique Character of This Honey

This Raw Wild Bees Honey tells a story of resilience and nature’s surprises. The subtle smoky flavour — reminiscent of a gently smoked honey — comes from the bees’ life in a fire-scarred or charred section of the old tree. It transforms a classic late-summer multifloral honey into something truly special: wild, aromatic, and full of character.

FAQ

What is raw wild bees honey?
Honey from a free-living honey bee colony that was living in a tree, then moved into a hive. This batch is the honey they had already stored in the Wysall tree before the move.

Why does the Wysall wild bees honey taste smoky?
The colony was in a fire-scarred hollow. The smoky note is from that home, not from smoking the honey after harvest.

Is this the same as Wysall willowherb honey?
No. Willowherb is a later forage jar from the same village. Wild bees honey is the tree-rescue batch from 18 August 2024.

Is the honey raw?
Yes. Unpasteurised, unblended, only coarsely strained.

Can I still buy this jar?
It’s a limited rescue harvest. Check the product page for stock and the Best Before on your lid if you already have a jar.
